This interactive, face-to-face course is for librarians who are seeking best practices or who would like to strengthen and refresh their instruction. Through small group work, individual exercises, group discussion, and lecture, you will learn how to apply proven principles, theories, and practices when designing effective instruction to actively engage learners.

Learning Objectives

Participants will learn how to apply proven principles, theories, and practices when designing effective instruction to actively engage learners.

Agenda:

0:00 – 0.30 (30 min) Introductory activities.

      0:30 - 1:30 (60 min) The science of learning and teaching.

1:30 – 2:30 (60 min) Engaging with student learning outcomes.

2:30 – 2:45 (15 min) Break

2:45 – 3:45 (60 min) Teaching methods.

3:45 – 4:45 (60 min) Lunch

4:45 – 5:45 (60 min) Assessment.

5:45 – 6:00 (15 min) Break

6:00 – 6:45 (45 min) Bringing it all together.

6:45 – 7:00 (15 min) Concluding activities.

Facility Requirements

Computer/laptop with projector/screen. Internet connection. Flip charts and markers. Chairs and tables in an arrangement that will support work in small groups. Paper and pens for participant use during the course.
