Your Role in Achieving Magnet Status

As you know Magnet Status is the highest level of recognition that an organization can receive for quality nursing care. It brings honor, great publicity and patients to hospitals. A medical librarian is a valuable member to the "Achieving Magnet Status" Team. This half day face-to-face course will review the 5 part Global Issues in Nursing & Health Care Model with their 14 Forces of Magnetism from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to determine where a Medical Librarian can make a difference. Concentration will be in Section IV-New Knowledge, Innovation and Improvements. Emphasis will be focused on conducting patient-centered outcomes research-"What difference has been made?" in innovative ways. There will be practice in turning research results into benchmarks. New models of care, application of existing evidence, new evidence wil be retrieved and appraise. Samples of how hospitals have achieved magnet status with a Librarian’s contribution will be reviewed. Finally, there will be Brainstorming of how to continue working with nurses once Magnet has been achieved.


Learning Objectives

At the close of this CE course, participants will be able to:

1-recreate the timeline of the creation of Magnet Status

2- list the 5 components with the corresponding 14 Forces of Magnetism

3-plan searches and run them in an evidence based nursing way

4-illustrate magnet hospitals 5-list ways the librarian can contribute to achieving or maintaining Magnet status

Facility Requirements

Computer with projector would be great to offer hands on for the participants. they could bring their own devices if wifi is available. OR, would be great to be in a computer lab for hands on
