This interactive webinar will give librarians the skills to assist users in: determining users’ goals for publication, identifying the best journals for publication, guiding users through the peer review process, and handling manuscript rejection, all while avoiding predatory or deceptive publishers and/or journals. The course will also give librarians a basic understanding of open access publishing. Participants will have the chance to test their new skills by matching abstracts to appropriate journals for submission.

This session is for academic or hospital librarians who work with authors (faculty, staff, students, residents, researchers, etc.) seeking publication. This is a beginner level course and no prior knowledge or skills are required.
Shalu Gillum, JD, MLS, AHIP is Head of Public Services for the Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. She is responsible for managing library public services, including reference, instruction, and promotion. She provides support to faculty, students, and staff in the areas of research, literature searching, and copyright compliance. She serves as the e-Bookshelf column editor for the Journal of Electronic Resources in Medical Libraries.
Terri Gotschall, MLIS, AHIP, is the Scholarly Communications Librarian for the Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library at the University of Central Florida. She is the book column editor for the Journal of Electronic Resources in Medical Libraries and an administrator for the open access, medical proceedings journal, Cureus. In her role, she supports faculty and students with the publication process and measuring scholarly impact. She has created a self-learning module on finding and evaluating journals to help authors avoid predatory journals and find the right journal for their article.
