The Canny Consumer: Resources for Consumer Health Decision-Making*

In this face-to-face and online class, the savvy health consumer and the current healthcare environment is explored. The burden of navigating the complex and confusing health system is increasing for patients and their families. A wide variety of resources are covered to empower individuals to become an engaged health consumer with the ability to make informed decisions.

Learning Objectives

  1. Gain knowledge of the behavior of e-health consumers and acquire awareness of ethical, social and privacy issues and/or practices surrounding these tools

  2. Explore and identify new and existing consumer health e-tools available to be a better healthcare consumer

  3. Utilize resources presented to locate reliable, authoritative health information specific to navigating the healthcare system

  4. Acquire skills and knowledge to effectively identify and assess resources not covered in class
