Come back frequently to see new courses and resources!

Visit "Catalogs" on the blue toolbar under the MEDLIB-ED logo.

  • To find all courses with scheduled start dates, view Scheduled Courses.
  • Within each catalog, narrow your search by selecting a “Category,” or “Tag,” or by entering keywords into the search bar.
  • To find courses that you can request to be offered at or hosted by your site, in your organization, or online from the provider, view Unscheduled Courses. You can refine your unscheduled course search by “Category,” or “Tag,” or by entering keywords into the search bar.

Categories are based on 6 major course types, plus unscheduled courses:

  • Face-to-Face: Courses offered live, in person.
  • Webinars: Webinars offered live or recorded.
  • Online: Synchronous courses (instructor and participants are online at same time) and asynchronous courses (self-paced, with or without interaction with an instructor).
  • Blended: Courses that combine elements of face-to-face and online courses.
  • Vendor: Courses of any type offered by a product or service vendor.
  • Unscheduled: courses that have been developed by organizations or independent instructors/course owners that are not currently offered or scheduled. Listings are often used to find offerings for regional meetings.
  • Other: Education offerings that don't fit into any above categories, such as MLA’s Independent Reading Program.

Almost all courses on MEDLIB-ED are approved for MLA CE credit. Exceptions (such as vendor courses, self-assessments, etc.) are specifically marked as not approved for CE credit.

Course owners/instructors must apply to have their course approved for MLA CE credit. MLA reviews and approves a course for CE credit if it meets these standards:

  • the course develops skills and knowledge in one or more MLA Competencies for Lifelong Learning and Success;
  • learning objectives are appropriate, given course topic and length;
    • learning objectives align with course description; and
    • authors and instructors have expertise in topic area.

When MLA approves a course for MLA CE credit, MLA does not:

  • Approve the instructor(s) or course author(s).
  • Approve the full course content.

Examples of how you can use MLA CE credits and course credit certificates include:

  • attesting your completion of a course to your employer;
  • meeting credentialing requirements (for example, MLA’s Academy of Health Information Professionals requires a certain number of points of professional accomplishments; a certain number can be credits from MLA-approved CE courses);
  • meeting certificate or specialization requirements (for example, you need to complete MLA-approved courses for the Medical Library Association Disaster Information or Consumer Health Information specializations).

MEDLIB-ED does not currently offer CE credits that meet educational requirements in other professions (e.g., CMEs, CNEs).

We list Unscheduled, non-MLA courses approved for MLA CE credit so learners can contact the instructor to learn more and so that organizations can request the course to be offered at their site. Some unscheduled courses appear elsewhere in the catalog as scheduled and many will be scheduled by the course owner.

Email the primary contact person identified at the top of the course description.

Enrollments, Courses, Credits, Transcripts

If you have received a course enrollment code, visit the “My Learning” tab and view the top left of your page. Enter your code and select the “REDEEM” button. This will

  • add the course to your “My Learning” page;
  • allow you to open the course and take the course, if it is offered on MEDLIB-ED;
  • allow you to access handouts, if available, learning materials, and other activities that are part of the course;
  • allow you to complete a course evaluation and download a statement of credit; and
  • show the course in your transcript.

Yes. MEDLIB-ED keeps a record of

  • every course you have taken or attempted on MEDLIB-ED;
  • every course for which you have come to MEDLIB-ED to complete the evaluation and download a statement of credit.

Your MEDLIB-ED transcript provides you with an ongoing record of any of these activities.

To create a printable (PDF) transcript: select your name in the upper right corner, then “My Account”, then the “Transcript” tab. Select the date range for which you want information, then choose which categories of information you want on your transcript: incomplete courses, all completed courses, or just courses that have MLA CE credit. When you are satisfied with your filters, select “Print Transcript” to create a PDF you can view and save, or download and print.

You can print credit certificates for past courses you have taken in two ways:

  • Visit the “My Learning Area” and select the course. In the course “claim credit” area, select the “Print” button to create a PDF you can view and save, or download and print. Or,
  • In your transcript (select your name >> “My Account” >> tab “Transcript”), select the “Credits Earned” area. Select the icon in front of each course listed to create a PDF you can view and save, or download and print.

Once you are enrolled in a course on MEDLIB-ED, you have 180 days (approx. 6 months) to complete the course and claim your credit. Some courses also list a “closing” date; this means they will be removed from any catalog and no longer available for purchase—but you still have to the end of your 180 days to complete that course and get your certificate. You can always access these courses through your “My Learning” area. If you took a course not hosted on MEDLIB-ED or a face-to-face course, you generally have 30 days from the end of the course to evaluate the course and claim your certificate or credit.

MEDLIB-ED only tracks credits you have earned by taking a MEDLIB-ED course or by completing an evaluation and claiming MLA CE credit through MEDLIB-ED. However, you can record a “course completion” in your transcript area for your own records. Select your name in the upper right corner, then choose “My Account” >> “Transcript” tab >> “Completions”. Select the “+ Add New” button and add the required course/activity information. This will only record a “course completion” and will not record credits you may have earned by taking that course. MEDLIB-ED does not provide an area for you to upload a course certificate.

MLA will ONLY accept a MEDLIB-ED transcript of “Credits Earned” for an Academy application or renewal. In this case, the transcript is adequate evidence and no additional certificate or evidence is required. Do not submit other information (e.g., “completions” you have entered yourself) on the transcript.

Examples of how you can use MLA CE credits and course credit certificates include:

  • attesting your completion of a course to your employer
  • meeting credentialing requirements (for example, MLA's Academy of Health Information Professionals requires a certain number of points of professional accomplishments; a certain number an be credits from MLA-approved CE courses)
  • meeting certificate or specialization requirements (for example, you need to complete MLA-approved courses for the Medical Library Association Disaster Information or Consumer Health Information Specializations).

At this time, MEDLIB-ED does not list courses approved for CE credit by organizations other than MLA.
