Toxic leadership (TL) can be found in every workplace, including libraries - all types of libraries. Learn what TL is and what it is not, learn to identify TL in the workplace, and what can be done to ameliorate or eradicate it from your library. How to go about reporting what you’ve witnessed or is happening to your or a colleague. Find out what mechanisms are available at your library or institution to project employees.

Learning Objectives

After this 90 minute course, participants should be comfortable:

  1. Defining toxic leadership
  2. Identifying toxic behaviors from red flags to actually toxic ones
  3. Telling the difference between toxic situation and a temporarily demanding one
  4. Recording incidents for future reference should the situation arise / not improve

Agenda

  • Welcome and Introductions (7-10 min) 
  • Lecture (25 - 35 min) (depending on how many clarification questions are asked)
  • Open Discussion about toxic leadership (15- 20 mins)
  • Case exercises (3) (30-45 min) includes the time to present each case and exercises
  • Conclusion (5 mins)
