This face-to-face class provides an overview of flipped learning with specific examples from medical and science classrooms. This class also provides an introduction to flipped classroom planning and an overview of technology tools that can be used to simplify the process.

The flipped classroom model is turning education around! Now it’s time to flip library instruction. Flipped learning methods transform class time into a learning lab, providing students with the opportunity to go in-depth on activities and gain feedback from instructors. Successful flipped learning takes many shapes but often the use of informative videos or tutorials are used to get students moving on research activities.Take your library instruction to the next level by learning the ins and outs of flipping your classroom!



Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this class participants will:

  • Be able to define and identify flipped classroom learning models;
  • Have an understanding of how library instruction can be translated into a flipped model;
  • Be aware of technology tools to facilitate the creation of videos and tutorials;
  • Have access to high-quality and reliable resources for flipped classroom creation.

Participants are required to watch two short videos and complete one quiz before this class (estimated time 30 minutes)

Flipped Classroom in Medical Education (20 minutes)
Discussion Activity 1 (15 minutes) Think-Pair-Share Topic: Benefits of flipped classroom model for library instruction.
Break (10 minutes)
Technology Tools for Video and Tutorial Creation (30 minutes)
Activity 2: Flip Your Instruction (45 minutes) Participants will have time to transform a basic library instruction session into a flipped model.
